WPLU Unionization Announcement
Dear Worthington Libraries Board of Trustees,
The mission of Worthington Libraries is to connect people to a world of ideas and each other. Our commitment to our core values of service, collaboration, and innovation have never been more evident than in the past year. Many in our patron community have expressed their gratitude, saying that we have helped make this difficult and stressful time in their lives a little better. We have demonstrated that we are capable of overcoming any challenge when we work together.
Now an overwhelming majority of us have agreed that it is time to make life better for our own staff community. We deserve a voice in the policies that affect us. We deserve a voice in decisions that affect the patrons we see and interact with every day. We deserve a workplace that isn’t subject to arbitrary changes in working conditions. We deserve to be respected and fairly compensated for our experience, talents, and hard work. We deserve opportunities to provide meaningful input on the direction and future of the library.
We deserve a union. And we are forming one.
Every person in this organization shares the same goal: to provide the highest level of service to all of our community. As staff, we are important members of this community. When we can feel secure and valued, we can focus more clearly on ensuring that our library system lives up to our core values and prepare for the challenges to come as we strive to fulfill our pledge to be an anti-racist organization. Please respect the majority decision that we have made, recognize our union and commit to not use taxpayer money to hire anti-union consultants or to engage in any actions that could be interpreted as anti-union behavior. We look forward to working collaboratively with you to strengthen our library system.
Sincerely,
Worthington Public Libraries United
