WPLU Blog - January 2026

Updates for January 2026

Happy New Year!

January was a pretty slow month, but we did get a couple of things started:
  • Ad Hoc committee
    • This committee was put together to begin looking at scheduling issues. This committee consists of three WPLU members, one from each branch, along with the three branch managers. Thank you to the members that volunteered to assist in this endeavor.
  • WPLU Website
    • We began adding new items to the website. The 2026-2028 contract is now available on there as well.
  • Robert's Rules

Action Items:

Q1 Member Meeting
Sunday, 2/8 from 5:15-6:45pm in the OWL Meeting Room

We will be going over Robert’s Rules and holding a mock debate to get everyone comfortable with proper meeting protocol.
We will also be giving out ICE-alert whistle bags and discussing how to be an active bystander in our community!

Feedback for AFT

Get to Gerta by Wednesday, 2/4
Gerta is our lovely representative for AFT’s Program and Policy Council (PPC), which is currently soliciting feedback: “AFT wants to know how we can better help members. So please feel free to share with me what AFT can do to better help you. Student loans, healthcare, anything else.” Before February 4th, please share any ideas with Gerta, via Discord (@gertronn), email (gogert93@gmail.com), or by text (319-383-3796).

Immigration Enforcement: A Nation at Risk
Wednesday, 1/28, 6-7:30pm EST
Our Poli Ed team compiled this incredible spreadsheet with local orgs to get involved with, upcoming actions/protests/strikes, ICE resistance information, and more. We can treat this as a living document, so please feel free to add comments to the spreadsheet, or email in with additional resources for us to add.
Though hopefully never needed, our Comms team also compiled some legal options, should a protest escalate to involve arrests or detention by law enforcement. If you attend a protest, you could print this out and take it with you, to feel better prepared.
